Risk and Reward
Life is full of risk. Each day we step outside of our comfort zones we take a risk. With the intentional choice to engage in risk there is often reward on the other side. Taking a risk can be as large as going skydiving or starting your own business, or as tiny as challenging old beliefs or changing dynamics in a relationship, no matter the size, every risk has a consequence, and the question becomes which consequences we are more willing to live with.
Stepping into change requires some level of risk taking for it demands that we do something different, and changing how we do things is risky, for we cannot predict the outcomes. Yet, the pay off is often a more fulfilling and rich experience of life. So I ask you, what inhibits your risk taking? Is it fear? If so, ask yourself, do I want fear to be the motivational force in my life?
Practice: What risks have you taken in your life? What have been the consequences of those risks?
Challenge: Every choice you have made in your life has lead to the person you are today. Challenge yourself to refrain from regret, even if some choices had unpleasant consequences, and allow yourself to tap into how the process of life and the many pleasant and painful decisions you have made have lead you to where you are now. From that place of radical acceptance, you can decide what your best course of action is going forward.
