Morning Mindfulness

When I woke this morning, smushed between my two pups, verdant light streaming in through the windows, I took a moment to check-in. I asked myself how I was feeling in my body and where my emotions were at. My body revealed a sleepy calm that felt akin to peacefulness. My emotions responded with a lethargic indifference, not quite aware of themselves yet. Giving a few moments of the morning to self inquiry lays the ground for a day of mindful awareness. When we hold space for ourselves without judgement, we set a tone for the day of self-awareness and self-compassion.

Practice: Each morning ask yourself: How am I feeling? Are there any notable sensations in my body? Are there any emotions vying for my attention?

Challenge: Avoid judging emotions and sensations as “good” or “bad’; just notice and observe what it is present.
